As children and adults prepare to return to school, the basic needs for class is always a requirement. From books, pencils, paper, folders and so much more, the steps it takes to get ready can be tedious year after year. We always see of variety of commercials and advertisements on television, internet and the mailbox getting us ready for the latest fashions to be worn during the school year. Coupons and discounts are often presented, as well as tax free days, to help parents save on money as much as possible to get their child back to school the right way.
The cost of books and supplies will never get cheaper, especially for those enrolled in college. As tuition goes up, so does the cost to sometimes write notes in class! Many universities allow students to purchase books on campus or local bookstores, but you can also buy them online, old and new. A used book will be cheaper than a newer one for obvious reasons. It is recommended to speak with the instructor prior to a specific class on suggestions about the book and supplies necessary for it. You may be able to get an old version of a book if only certain chapters or topics will be covered. In this case, cliff notes and handouts given in class may be all you need for this course. Believe it or not, you can even apply for a scholarship for supplies and books. If there is a program or award system at your school for this, take advantage of it!
Having a way of doing things in the classroom is an ethical way of keeping the flow of study organized. Management of the classroom helps to establish community and culture. Classroom Procedures are important because it explains how to do something, and the instructor’s job is to explain it as best as possible. It helps to reduce interruptions, problems and confusion that may occur, and it tells the student how things should go. When explaining a procedure, the teacher should tell what they expect from the students, demonstrate it and do it repeatedly until it becomes a routine for all to follow. Different examples of teaching procedures include going to the bathroom, asking for help, what to do in case of an emergency and how to enter the classroom. As the weeks go on, you will see these procedures becoming second nature to everyone involved.
We shouldn’t expect things to be as they were the year before. You have a new set of classmates, instructors and sometimes a different school to attend. This can all make one nervous about new beginnings but anxious to get it started. Books, new clothes, strange hallways, harder instructors- these elements are in place to propel your mind to the future genius you will become. Know that you will be fine with everything as the days go on, it will only get easier and better from here!…
